Sylvia Plath (1932-1963), was an American poet and writer, associated with  advancing the genre of confessional poetry. She has risen to iconic static status since her suicide at age 30. ARIEL her second book of poetry published posthumously in 1965 astonished the literary world with its power, and has become one of the best-selling volumes of poetry published in England and America in the 20th century.  Her best-known poems are noted for their personal imagery and intense focus.
